Nima grew up in Khumjung, an hour above Namche, and started carrying loads on the Everest trail at nineteen. The IFMGA certification came eleven years later — a four-year process that fewer than sixty Nepali guides have completed.
On a trek that means someone who is reading the mountain rather than following an itinerary: adding an acclimatisation night before anyone feels it, moving a departure forward by a day when a front is closing in, and knowing which lodge in Dingboche actually keeps its dining room warm.
Off the trail Nima runs the winter avalanche-awareness sessions that Aroha's Khumbu porters attend before every season.
People come for the summit photograph. What they remember is the third morning, when they realise they can do this.
