The problem
Across our programme regions, women own less than 2% of registered businesses and control less than 10% of household income — despite doing the majority of domestic and agricultural labour. Without access to capital or skills, talented women cannot build the livelihoods that would lift their families and communities.
Our approach
KINDRED's Women's Empowerment programme provides small-business loans (average $250), 12-week business literacy training, and access to a peer network of 32,000 women across our regions. We pair each borrower with a local mentor who has built her own business. Loan repayment rates have consistently exceeded 97%.
The impact
32,000 women have received KINDRED loans or training. Average household income among participants has increased by 180% within two years. 89% of businesses started with KINDRED loans are still operating after five years. Women in our network report dramatically improved confidence, community standing, and decision-making power.
