The problem

More than 400 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa lack access to safe drinking water. Women and girls walk an average of 3.7 miles daily to collect water, often from contaminated sources. Waterborne illness is the leading cause of child mortality in the communities we serve.

Our approach

KINDRED's water program is built on three pillars: infrastructure, community ownership, and long-term maintenance. We don't just drill wells — we train local water committees, establish repair fund systems, and return annually for monitoring visits. Every installation is GPS-tagged and tracked via our open data platform.

The impact

Since 2014, our clean water program has served over 420,000 people across 340 communities. Waterborne illness rates have dropped by 78% in communities with KINDRED installations. Girls' school attendance has increased by 34% — because they're no longer spending half their day walking for water.
