The problem
Climate change has made the rains in West Africa increasingly unpredictable. Traditional crops that fed families for generations now fail every second or third season. In the communities we work in, 1 in 5 children under five shows signs of acute malnutrition.
Our approach
KINDRED's food security programme trains farmers in drought-resistant seed varieties, water-efficient irrigation, and soil health. We help establish community grain storage co-operatives so families can eat through lean seasons without resorting to moneylenders. We partner with local governments to link our co-ops to national nutrition programmes.
The impact
60,000 people now have food security through KINDRED-supported programmes. Crop yields have improved by an average of 140% using our seed and soil training. Child malnutrition rates have dropped by 52% in our target districts. 45 women-led cooperatives are now financially self-sustaining.
