The material intelligence

Materials & Finishes

Every material on a KEYSTONE project is specified for how it behaves, ages, and reads in twenty years — not just at handover. These are the families we work with most.

Family 01

Structural Expression

Materials that do work and look like it — raw, honest, and beautifully resolved.

Board-Formed Concrete
#A09A93

Interior walls, wine caves, entry sequences. Forms leave their grain in the surface.

Rammed Earth
#C4A882

Perimeter walls, retaining elements. Each layer a geological record of the site.

Douglas Fir (exposed)
#B8855A

Structural members, rafters, beams. Left unfinished or oiled to read the growth rings.

Weathering Steel (COR-TEN)
#8B4513

Exterior cladding accents, gates, bridge elements. Oxidizes to a stable amber-rust.

Family 02

Stone & Masonry

Quarried, cut, and set by hand. KEYSTONE sources all stone from verified regional suppliers.

Basalt (honed)
#4A4A4A

Floors, fireplace surrounds, kitchen counters. Dense, fine-grained, nearly imperviable.

Limestone (tumbled)
#D4C9B0

Exterior paving, pool surrounds, bathroom tile. Softens with age.

Slate (cleft face)
#5C6670

Roofing, exterior cladding, wet areas. Extraordinary dimensional stability.

White Marble (Thassos)
#F5F0E8

Powder rooms, primary baths, kitchen counters. Used precisely, not everywhere.

Family 03

Wood & Millwork

Every wood species and finish specified for how it will age — not just how it looks at handover.

White Oak (wire-brushed)
#C9A96E

Wide-plank flooring, cabinet faces, wall paneling. Wire-brush reveals the ray fleck.

Walnut (fumed)
#3D2B1F

Feature millwork, built-ins, stair treads. Fuming deepens the chocolate tones permanently.

Thermally Modified Cedar
#8B5E3C

Exterior siding, pergolas, screen walls. Class A fire resistance without chemical treatment.

Reclaimed Oak (face-sawn)
#9E7A50

Feature walls, barn doors, ceiling planks. Each board carries its own provenance.

Family 04

Metal & Glass

Precision-fabricated, welded, and finished in-house by our millwork partner.

Blackened Steel
#2A2925

Window frames, doors, stair railings, kitchen hardware. Patina develops slowly over years.

Brushed Bronze
#8B7355

Plumbing fixtures, cabinet hardware, switch plates. Unlacquered so it can develop character.

Low-Iron Glass (extra-clear)
#E8F0EF

Large pivot doors, fixed glazing, shower enclosures. No green cast — pure light transmission.

Polished Stainless
#C0C0C0

Kitchen appliances, commercial hoods, laboratory-grade counters. Hardest-working surface in the house.

How we specify

Every material has a written specification.

Before any material leaves the distributor for a KEYSTONE site, it has a written specification: manufacturer, grade, thickness, finish, installation method, acceptable tolerance, and inspection criteria. We don't order 'the usual' — we order exactly what the drawings call out, verified against what arrives.
