Philodendron Brasil
Philodendron hederaceum 'Brasil'
Vivid lime and forest-green variegated hearts trailing at speed — a joyful, fast-growing vine.
Philodendron Brasil is a cultivar of the heartleaf Philodendron with irresistible, boldly variegated foliage. Each heart-shaped leaf is brushed with irregular strokes of lime yellow and chartreuse through a rich forest green base, with each leaf slightly different from the last — no two are alike. It grows rapidly in the right conditions, producing long vines perfect for trailing from shelves or trained up a moss pole. Native to the tropical forests of Brazil (hence the name), it is substantially tougher than its striking appearance suggests: tolerating lower light, temperature variation, and occasional missed waterings with far more grace than more temperamental variegated plants.

Care tips
Water when the top inch of soil dries out — typically every week in summer and every 2 weeks in winter. Brighter light will intensify the yellow variegation; in very low light the leaves may revert towards solid green. Propagate easily in water from a node cutting. Provide a moss pole for climbing growth that produces larger, more dramatic leaves. Trim regularly to maintain a bushy shape and propagate the cuttings.
Common issues
Reverting to solid green leaves indicates too little light — move to a brighter position. Yellowing leaves usually signal overwatering. Brown edges can result from dry air or cold draughts from windows in winter. Leggy vines with large gaps between leaves are a sign of insufficient light. Mealybugs can appear at nodes; treat with neem oil or an alcohol-dipped cotton swab.
