Monstera Deliciosa

Monstera deliciosa

$184-inch

The iconic Swiss Cheese Plant — bold, sculptural, and endlessly photogenic.

Monstera deliciosa is the defining statement plant of modern interiors. Native to the tropical rainforests of Central America, it develops its famous fenestrations — those distinctive splits and holes — as leaves mature, giving each plant a unique silhouette. In a bright indoor space it can put out a new leaf every few weeks during the growing season. Its glossy, deep-green foliage creates strong architectural shadows and pairs beautifully with natural materials like rattan, concrete, and linen. A beginner-friendly giant that rewards minimal neglect with maximum drama.

Care tips

Water thoroughly then allow the top 2 inches of soil to dry before watering again — typically every 1–2 weeks in summer, less in winter. Wipe leaves monthly with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve light absorption. Provide a moss pole or coir totem once the plant reaches 30 cm to support aerial roots and encourage larger leaf development. Repot every 1–2 years into a well-draining aroid mix.

Common issues

Yellow leaves usually indicate overwatering or poor drainage — ensure the pot has drainage holes and that soil dries slightly between waterings. Brown crispy edges suggest low humidity or salt build-up from tap water; flush the soil occasionally and mist or use a pebble tray. Leggy growth with small leaves without fenestrations signals insufficient light — move closer to a bright window.
