We're FROND.
An independent plant nursery rooted in Portland, Oregon.
It started with a monstera.
FROND began in 2018 in a converted greenhouse in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood. Our founders, Maya and Eli, had spent years collecting houseplants — filling their apartment with tropical specimens, learning their rhythms, and watching friends fall in love with the same plants over and over again. The greenhouse started as a hobby. Within a year it was a business.
We don't buy from wholesale brokers. Every plant in our catalog has been sourced by visiting growers directly — in the nurseries of the Pacific Northwest, in the humidity-controlled greenhouses of Florida, and occasionally from specialist collectors in California and the Netherlands. We look for growers who share our commitment to healthy root systems, honest sizing, and sustainable propagation methods.
The name FROND comes from a conversation about what makes a plant feel alive in a space. Fronds move. They catch light. They change with the seasons. We wanted a name that felt botanical without being precious, and a little bit wild — the way the best indoor spaces feel.
What we stand for
Sustainably sourced
We visit our growers in person, choosing nurseries that propagate responsibly and care for their soil and workers.
Expert curation
We test every variety in real home conditions before it earns a place in the catalog. If it doesn't thrive, it doesn't ship.
Lifelong support
Every plant comes with detailed care instructions, and our team answers questions over email seven days a week.
