Peace Lily
Spathiphyllum wallisii
Elegant white blooms and lush foliage that genuinely purifies the air — and it tells you when it's thirsty.
The Peace Lily is one of very few houseplants that thrives in low light and still flowers indoors — producing elegant white spathes throughout spring and sometimes again in autumn. Its deep green, glossy leaves provide rich tropical texture, and the whole plant droops dramatically when thirsty (then perks back up within hours of watering), making it one of the most communicative plants you can own. NASA identified it as among the most effective air-purifying houseplants, removing benzene, formaldehyde, and carbon monoxide. A perfect choice for offices, bedrooms, and north-facing rooms.

Care guide
Care tips
Water when the leaves just begin to droop — Peace Lily will tell you exactly when it needs water. Use room-temperature water, as cold water can cause brown tips. Keep away from direct sunlight, which scorches leaves. Feed once a month in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Remove spent flowers at the base to encourage new blooms.
Common issues
Brown leaf tips are usually caused by fluoride or chlorine in tap water, low humidity, or dry soil. Switch to filtered water and consider a pebble tray for humidity. Yellow leaves indicate overwatering or too much direct light. Failure to flower is usually a light issue — move to a slightly brighter spot without direct sun. Check for spider mites in very dry conditions.
