“A transit is a three-millimagnitude dip. You do not see it. You measure it, and then you believe it.”

Wren spends about four months a year on site, running transit photometry on Sombra and teaching the parts of the residency that involve data rather than eyepieces.

The teaching is the reason the fellowship exists. Most people who want to image the sky have never reduced a frame, and the gap between a stack of sub-frames and a result is where enthusiasm usually dies. Wren closes that gap in about two evenings.
