Manifesto

We do not decorate buildings. We resolve them — down to the last tolerance — until nothing is left to add and nothing is safe to remove. A building is finished when it earns its own silence.

Twenty years

  1. PLINTH is founded

Elena Voss and Marcus Kade open a two-desk office in Portland, taking on renovation work to fund the practice's first ground-up commission.

  2. First institutional commission

A regional library extension becomes the studio's first public building — and the first project to run on the four-phase process PLINTH still uses today.

  3. Marfa studio opens

A second studio opens near West Texas quarry partners, formalising the practice's material-first approach to construction.

  4. Quarry Chapel completes

The studio's most cited project — built almost entirely from stone excavated on site — establishes PLINTH's reputation nationally.

  5. Los Angeles design office opens

A third studio opens to serve a growing slate of West Coast residential and hospitality work.

  6. Twenty years, forty projects

PLINTH marks two decades with six industry awards, three studios, and a body of work built almost entirely in concrete, stone, and timber.
