Loomfolk
Taos, New MexicoTextilesCrafting since 2013
The story
Sela Otero weaves on a floor loom her grandmother strung, using wool from a flock thirty miles up the valley. The colours come from the land around her — indigo, madder root, the soft greys of churro fleece left undyed.
A single throw takes the better part of a week at the loom. Loomfolk makes a few dozen a year, no more, and each carries the small irregularities that tell you a person, not a machine, passed the shuttle.
In the studio
Handwoven on a four-harness floor loom from naturally dyed churro and merino wool. Expect gentle variation in width — that's the loom, working honestly.
