The story
Mara Whitfield threw her first pot in a borrowed studio the winter she left a desk job for good. Ten years on, Kiln & Clay is a two-kiln workshop in the Blue Ridge foothills where every piece is wheel-thrown, trimmed and glazed by hand before a slow wood firing that takes three days to cool.
Mara works in small, repeatable runs rather than one-offs, because a table set should match — but never perfectly. The faint variations from the flame are the point: no two mugs leave the kiln quite alike, and she wouldn't have it any other way.
In the studio
Fired in a soda kiln to cone 10. Each glaze is mixed in-studio from raw oxides — the ash blush along a rim is the kiln's signature, not a defect.
