Our story
WHY WE
BUILT CRUX
CRUX was founded in 2019 by Marcus Reyes and Jade Kim — a competitive powerlifter and a CrossFit Games athlete who had both spent years training in world-class facilities and coaching in gyms that, frankly, let people down.
The gyms were either too expensive and too focused on celebrity aesthetics, or they were big-box facilities where nobody knew your name and the programming was essentially “do something hard and hope for the best.”
What was missing was a place that took fitness seriously at a boutique scale — where the coaching was elite, the programming was intelligent, the community was real, and the barrier to walk through the door for the first time was as low as possible.
So they built it. 247 West 28th Street, Chelsea, New York. Five thousand square feet of studio space, two coaches, and one rule: every single class has to be the best hour of your week.
Five years later, CRUX has six elite coaches, 3,200 active members, and a waiting list for Founding Membership. The rule has not changed.

What we believe
THE CRUX PHILOSOPHY
01
Purpose before effort
Every session has a physiological reason for existing. We don't do burpees because they're punishing — we do them when the programming calls for it. Every class is a building block, not a random burn.
02
The coach is everything
A great program run by a mediocre coach produces mediocre results. At CRUX, we hire obsessives — people for whom coaching is a craft, not a side job. They know your name, your injury history, and your next goal.
03
Community is the secret sauce
The science is clear: people who train in accountable, social environments achieve better results than those who train alone. We design for community, not just for class capacity.
04
Accessible on day one
Elite coaching shouldn't be reserved for people who already know what they're doing. Our Foundations class and first-free policy exist because the best time to meet a great coach is before you've developed bad habits.
05
Recovery is training
We schedule Mobility and Recovery classes as first-class citizens because we know that the limiting factor for most people is not effort — it's adaptation. Train hard. Recover harder.
06
No nonsense. Just results.
We don't sell you supplements, miracle recovery protocols or "transformation challenges" that disappear after week four. We sell you excellent coaching, honest programming and a community that shows up.
The studio
THE SPACE
Studio A is the main strength floor — 2,000 sq ft of turf, platforms and rigs built for barbell work. Ten squat racks, a full cable station, and enough dumbbells to outfit a small facility. Ceiling height of 16 feet for overhead work.
Studio B is the mobility and conditioning space — rubber floor, fully matted, with wall-to-wall mirrors and enough natural light that it doesn’t feel like a basement.
The Boxing Floor is a dedicated striking space — 12 heavy bags, three speed bags, a double-end bag, and mirrors. The Cycling Studio seats 20 with premium smart bikes that display live power output.
Amenities: two changing rooms, lockers, showers, towel service (Unlimited and Founding members), a water station and retail.

Community
THE PEOPLE WHO
MAKE IT WORK
3,200 members from every walk of life — first-time exercisers and competitive athletes, 20-somethings and people in their 60s, people who come every day and people who make it three times a week. The unifying factor is intent. CRUX members show up to get better. The culture follows.
We host monthly community events — open strength competitions (no experience required), social runs, partner stretching workshops and quarterly member showcases where coaches spotlight progress stories.
