What leaders actually do: the evidence base

There is now a substantial body of research on what distinguishes effective leaders from ineffective ones. It is not charisma. It is not vision. It is not decisiveness. It is a set of behavioural patterns — many of them mundane — that create the conditions in which other people do their best work.
