GRAIN was founded on a single conviction: that intelligent, beautifully written journalism about culture, ideas, and everyday life is not a luxury — it is a necessity. That the examined life requires a press willing to examine it.
Our Mission
GRAIN publishes long-form journalism and essays on art, design, food, technology, society, and the life of ideas. We are not a news publication. We do not chase the breaking story, the trending topic, or the timely take. We are interested in something harder to find and, we believe, more durable: the piece that tells you something true about the world you are actually living in.
We publish slowly, deliberately, in the belief that good writing requires time — to report, to think, to revise. We take pains with language. We care about sentences. We believe that style is not decoration but argument, and that the way a thing is said changes what is being said.
This edition demonstrates a reader-supported model with a free newsletter and no advertising inventory. A production publisher should replace this paragraph with its verified funding, privacy, analytics, and data-retention practices before launch.
Editorial Standards
The template includes a publication-ready standards framework: named authors, source review, fact-checking, copyediting, conflict disclosures, and a visible corrections route. A live editorial team should document who owns each step and how corrections are dated.
Corrections should be prompt and prominent. This demo routes reports to corrections@grain.example; replace the example address with a monitored inbox and publish a response target.
Editorial and commercial responsibilities should remain separate. Any sponsor involvement, affiliate relationship, gifted access, or contributor conflict should be disclosed beside the relevant story—not hidden in a generic policy page.
